Widowed two years ago, Jen Davis is continuing on with her and her deceased husband Nate's long term plan to move back to their hometown so that their now preteen daughter Isabel can be closer to both sets of their parents. Jen is still struggling with life without Nate but wants to be an integral part of Isabel's life as she continues her work as a web designer. That's why on the first day of school, Jen attends the PTO meeting where committee sign-up for the year will occur. Late to the meeting, Jen is stuck on the committee that no one in the know wants, namely Field Day in the disaster Field Day has been year after year. Also stuck on the committee are Marissa Morris, a workaholic lawyer who has made a vow to her family that PTO would be her one contribution to daughter Lucy's school life, and alpha mom-in-waiting Kelly Stewart who is guilted into being on the committee by PTO president/queen alpha mom Suzanne Burns. Kelly, who wants to be daughter Jordan's BFM (best friend mom), is an aspiring BFM social media influencer, she posting what she believes are well-crafted, highly produced messages on the topic online. Being different in mentality and temperament, each of the three mothers don't see the other two as ever being friends as they struggle with their committee work, much of it fueled by the bad reputation of Field Day. Those struggles lead to the three women finding that they need to be each other's support to make Field Day a success despite the obstacles. What happens is also affected by Jen's new friendship with PE teacher Dan Aldridge, that friendship teetering on a romantic relationship, neither who may be ready for such with the parent gossip adding an extra layer of potential problems.
