Adil is an eleven-year-old boy who learns the martial art of silek for competitions. He is taught by his own uncle Rustam. He is so upset when he lost to Hardi in a local competition. He accuses Hardi of cheating in the fight although Hardi strongly denies it. He even gets more devastated when Rustam leaves the village to live in the city. Along with his friends Dayat and Kurip, Adil then begins searching for a new teacher. With the help of another friend, Rani, who secretly admires Adil, their seach leads them to Johar, a retired university teacher and a former silek warrior. It's Johar who teaches them the true meaning of silek. Johar is successful in introducing the grand philosophy of silek to the children. Adil comes to realize that silek is not meant for competition. Physically, silek is to make friends; and mentally, it is to seek God. With this new insight, Adil is resolved to put an end to his feud with Hardi. The subsequent silek competition is a showcase of Adil's transformation from a short-tempered boy into a down-to-earth little silek warrior.
